1000 Islands – Alexandria Bay Poker Run Postponed
Due to high water levels and a 5 mph limit in major areas
Bill Taylor, President of Poker Runs America and Powerboating Canada, has announced that the 2019 Thousand Islands A-Bay Poker Run has been postponed until further notice.
Following several meetings over the past 3 weeks with local communities, the US Coast Guard, State Park Police and Canadian Waterway officials along with Pierre Savoie, safety and event co-ordinator, concluded that maintaining our 32 year safety record is vitally important. The primary concern is for the safety of our participants, spectators and the home owners’ property throughout the region.
We have decided to postpone the June 28 and 29 Poker Run in Alexandria Bay. The flooding situation is not as severe on the Canadian side, but its infrastructure follows the same path therefore we will not converge on the Canadian waters that could do major damage as well.
We are told that reduction in water levels will not happen until much later in July and will hopefully notaffect the August CANAM event in the Thousand Islands. We’ll keep you posted!
In the meantime, get ready, get set for the 4thannual Sault Ste Marie CANAM Poker Run July 26/17 where you will be able to feast your eyes on some of the most beautiful scenery on the water. This is a FIRST CLASSevent with the city of Sault Ste Marie behind it 100% and where our participants will be treated like royalty (along with the red carpet), with full accommodations and meals for the weekend. Even full breakfast on Sunday morning upon departure! Join usfor this charity driven event benefitting the Twinkie Foundation*.
In the past we supported Big Brothers/Big Sisters; for 2019 we chose the *Twinkie Foundation and this year’s choice is dedicated to the needs of the SSM community.
The Sault Ste Marie border is the friendliest border crossingin the world. Let’s join this fun-filled weekend and enjoy the magnificent waters of Lake Superior on the Great Lakes!
