The all-new 360 Crossover Bowrider marks a new era for Formula Boats.
By Gregg Mansfield
Formula Boats has been building boats for more than 60 years, and John Adams has been behind the designs of the popular brand.
The all-new Formula 360 Crossover Bowrider, introduced in June 2025, is the first time Formula’s Adams was not involved in the design. That task went to Michael Young, a mentor of Adams, to design the new generation of Crossover Bowriders. It’s all part of the plan as Adams is gradually stepping back from his long-running role with the Decatur, Ind., company.
Young has clearly been taking notes, as the 360 CBR is a fresh design that retains all the qualities Formula’s reputation is built upon.
“The Formula 360 CBR is a true blend of entertainment-ready comfort and the exhilarating agility that is rooted in our performance heritage,” Young said. “I’ve been excited to preserve that unmistakable Formula essence while introducing new features and finesse.”
The 360 CBR is the largest model in Formula’s Crossover Bowrider lineup, which includes 33- and 35-foot versions. True to the line, the 36-foot open bow has a single-level, flush cockpit and a true stand-up cabin with overnight accommodations.
A full-width fiberglass hardtop with a powered glass sunroof comes standard, protecting the expansive cockpit. The triple helm to starboard maximizes style and space, packed with electronic goodies to enhance the day-boating experience.
The helm features a standard Raymarine Axiom+ 12 GPS widescreen chartplotter or can be upgraded to Axiom 2 XL 16 dual chartplotters. Depending on the selected power, buyers can opt for Mercury DTS with SmartCraft VesselView Joystick Piloting control or Ilmor One-Touch PRO joystick control with MERLIN display.
To enhance the day on the water, Formula stepped up the audio game with a Rockford Fosgate stereo system. It comes with a full-featured, dash-mounted remote to control the 12 color-changing JL Audio speakers, 600-watt amplification and a 200-watt lighted subwoofer. Formula has included twin inductive phone-charging mounts. The steering wheel features new-for-2025 styling accented by an upholstered dash eyebrow.
Formula’s Young maximized the cockpit space, taking advantage of the 360 CBR’s 11’ 3” beam. Aft of the triple helm is a U-shaped lounge that includes stowage and a Yeti cooler that tucks underneath. Twin dual-height Corian tables and filler cushions turn the lounge into a large sun pad. The rear-facing convertible aft sun lounge with multi-position backrest adds to the lounging space. A neat convenience is six USB-A/USB-C charging ports recessed into the lumbar areas.
To port, there are two seating areas and a wetbar that includes an integrated sink, pull-out refrigerator and a trash container. Access to the cockpit is either through a portside entry or the extended watersports swim platform.
To access the bow, the 360 CBR has a centerline walkthrough. Formula included double-wide, forward-facing seating that seats seven people. The 330-degree seating transforms into a sun lounge with dual-height Corian tables and the standard filler cushions installed. To make things comfier, Formula includes a molded-in cooler and trash container under the forward cushion and an optional motorized SureShade canopy.
The most impressive design work was in the cabin, where Formula made great use of the space. Formula cleverly situated the full-size double berth with a Sensus memory foam mattress, so there’s no need to convert the lounge for sleeping. Formula still found room for a double-wide lounge, a cedar-lined hanging locker, an upper cabinet and a 24” television.
The aircraft galley to port includes a pull-out refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker and a Corian countertop with a concealed in-counter wastebasket. Buyers can add a lower cabinet to starboard with a concealed molded sink and wine bottle storage. Formula offers an 8,000-BTU cabin air conditioner for added comfort.
A private head compartment features a full 6’ 2” headroom and comes stocked with a VacuFlush head, a shower with a curtain and a Corian countertop with a custom-molded sink. Formula included additional storage and even a wireless charging mount.
While Formula stopped building its FAS3Tech sport boats after the 2020 model year, that DNA remains evident throughout the entire line. The multi-step hull technology can be paired with twin sterndrives packages from 380 to 520 horsepower with offerings from Mercury Marine, Mercury Racing or Ilmor Marine. Formula will offer the 360 CBR with twin or triple Mercury Verado power plants. The outboard version will debut at the
Although the 360 Crossover Bowrider is Young’s first solo project for Formula, he’s clearly learned a lot under John Adams’ mentorship while charting his own course.
