The final poker run of the National Powerboat Association’s 2013 power season took place on September 14 where players enjoyed one last blast throughout Long Island Sound in Millford, CT.
The final poker run of the National Powerboat Association’s 2013 power season took place on September 14 where players enjoyed one last blast throughout Long Island Sound in Millford, CT.
Headquartered at Lisman Landing Marina and hosted by Indigo by the Sea Restaurant, the Millford Powerboat Poker Run consisted of a 65-mile course, which brought an impressive fleet of performance to Port Jefferson, NY., Branford, CT., with a return run back to the Milford River.
The players took in the excellent course with a series of checkpoints/card stops located just north of Port Jefferson, in Long island, NY., where cards were handed out from “SeagarMan,” a 45’ Viking from the Seagar Loft in Milford, CT, while the second checkpoint/card stop was at Parker Memorial Park where the cards were dealt from a second card boat of Northeast Performance Marine, in Bridgeport CT.
As the impressive array of performance donned stylish graphics and the drivers strutted their power, Jim Slattery’s 42’ Fountain lead as the pace boat (with Bob Kolenberg navigating), while other players included Chris Ryder and Joe Sgro in his 32’ Skater, John O’Loughlin and his “Terminator”, a 48 MTI (with Jimmy Mac on the sticks), Steve Barker in his 43’ Nor-Tech, John Mackenzie in his 35 Motion Cat, and Patrick DeMaio, who experienced his first poker run in his 37’ Outerlimits.
In the end, however, it was all in the cards for poker runner Chris Ryder who played three aces, winning the Top Poker Hand, while Bobby Doohan earned the prestigious Spirit of the NPBA award in his 39 Outerlimits. Jason Gotch won the Special Recognition Award in his 38’ Cigarette and Bob Kolenberg won the Navigator’s Award.
Looking sharp as ever in their racing shirts was Patrick DiMaio and his crew, earning the ‘Best Looking Crew’ award with his 37’ Outerlimits, while Steve Barker took the ‘Best Looking Boat’ award in his 43’ Nor-Tech. Other participants honored included Johnny O’loughlin who earned the Top Cat award for his 48 MTI and Scotty Carol earned the Top V-Bottom Award for his 38 Cigarette Top Gun.
